Does my business need to be GDPR compliant?

In short: probably yes.

A major component of GDPR is that it does not merely apply to EU businesses; any entities processing the personal data of EU citizens need to comply with the regulations as well.

Channels like Airbnb and Booking.com bring in lots of guests from all over the world, and if you have reservations from EU residents you are required to be GDPR compliant.

If Guesty is GDPR compliant, is my business also automatically compliant?

The GDPR has different requirements depending on how your business interacts with personally identifiable user data.

Personally identifiable user data: any information that can be used to distinguish or trace an individual's identity such as name, or even date of birth.

As one of our customers, you are a data controller under the GDPR. Data controllers are companies that supply goods or services to EU residents, or that track or monitor EU residents and decide why and how data is collected and processed. One of your requirements as a data controller is to only work with compliant data processors.

As a property management software, Guesty is considered to be a data processor, that is to say a businesses that process data on behalf of data controllers.
