Virtual Credit Cards

What are virtual credit cards?

Virtual credit cards are online cards that are not physically issued by the credit card provider. Virtual credit cards include a one-time-use credit card number created by the respective credit card provider. Typically, virtual credit card numbers can be used only once.

Does Guesty support virtual credit cards?

We don't fully support virtual credit cards via our Stripe connection. Virtual credit cards don't actually 'exist' until check-in day. Only on that day they are activated and charged.

For the reasons above, we can support virtual credit cards with Stripe only if the reservation is charged on the check-in day.

For a more technical explanation:
Since Guesty doesn't keep your credit card's data on our servers, we create a Stripe token on reservation confirmation. With Virtual cards, we are unable to create that token on reservation confirmation and can't charge them.

What can you do?

You can either not allow guests to use virtual cards in the channel itself, or add the card's details manually and charge the cards on the day of check-in. You can set an Auto-message to remind this to yourself.

*We're hoping that in the future we'll be able to store credit card details locally and support virtual credit cards.

Stripe MCC (Merchant Category Codes)

Every business that processes card payments is categorized using Merchant Category Codes (MCC). This code controls what you can and cannot do, including Virtual Credit Cards processing.

If your virtual credit card fails to process, it might be because of a wrong MCC. Please contact our support team for further assistance.
